Sorghastrum nutans, commonly known as Yellow Indiangrass,[2] is a North American prairie grass found in the central and eastern United States and Canada, especially in the Great Plains. It is a perennial tussock grass, prominent in tallgrass prairie, along with big bluestem, little bluestem and switchgrass. It is the official state grass of both Oklahoma and South Carolina.

Ecology

Indiangrass is native to prairie habitat. It can regrow after fires, but is intolerant to shade. Its blooming period is in late spring.
